Future Plans and Films

I have many plans for the future which consist of making short films, being crew on a professional TV/film set, to making music videos. I have been involved in lots of different types and genres of film inside and outside of university and my goal is to expand this to the next level and work on so much more of what the industry has to offer. On this segment of my blog, I will be telling you my future plans which are being carried out now and my goals within the industry.

Future plans within university
My future plans start with university. As I am currently still a student, I have some up and coming projects which will start their production in a months time. I have been asked by a Producer in my university (Katie Wynne, who I have worked with previously) to be her 1st Assistant Director in a proving script and also in a major. This will be my first major to be such a big and important role in and I am more than excited to start working on both of these projects. For the small, proving script, Strangers, we have already started pre-production on this and me, the producer, director and DOP went on a location recce where we thought would be amazing. We found ways around how to shoot here, as it is a public location. I started off whilst looking around, finding risks for my risk assessment.

My Goals for outside of University

When I leave university, ideally I would love to go into the amazing world of the Film and TV. However, this isn’t quite realistic. I know that it is quite difficult to get into the film industry, especially when you haven’t had lots of experience outside of university which is why getting enough experience with university and getting roles I need to excel is vital for getting jobs in the future. I will most likely have to start off by doing voluntary work and work experience but it’s those kinds of expierences that help you set off in the industry. As I have worked in many different roles, not just 1st ADing, including script supervising, being a runner, 2nd ADing and much more it definitely broadens your mindset of what exact role you want to be doing and also how difficult it can be for every other role.

The last major film I was on in university is called 0 Lives Left. On this film, I worked as a 2nd Assistant Director, this role actually proved to be quite difficult throughout the production for me. I made mistakes and I have learned from them, this was my first experience as a 2nd AD and I am very thankful I got the opportunity to be a part of it and learn to help me progress in the field. There was a crew of over 40 crew, mostly including students, who I had to send a call sheet to everyday, I had to plan how everyone was getting to the different locations for what times and the reason I found this quite frustrating for me is most likely the lack of communication. Nearly every night of the week we were filming I had at least one person messaging me stating they hadn’t recieved a call sheet – I found it all so overwhelming but I didn’t crumble under this pressure, I got up and I sorted out my mistakes which I am very proud of.
