From now to this time last year, I can proudly say, I know how I have grown in my department in relation to experience and professionalism. I may have only done minor roles so far in my current academic year in university, however, this is only the start. With the major and proving script, starting only next month, I cannot wait to start my Pre-Production and get onto set for my first time being a 1st AD in a major film within the university. I know how challenging this is going to be but after seeing all of the challenges I have worked up from, I know I am going to try my absolute hardest and help make two amazing films. The challenges I have set myself have always had the National Occupational Standards always in mind as this is the most correct way of going about not on the film and TV industry but any job.
Compared to my second academic year, I may haven’t have worked on as many productions but I know and understand how much more of a better member of the department I have come as with he expierence definitely comes professionalism. No matter how much I have learned or how many challenges I may have set myself, I will always be learning more and continuously setting myself more and more challenges to better myself.

Nationwide Commercial
I think that the Nationwide Commercial was an extremely lucky thing to be asked to take part of and I am overwhelmed and incredibly happy with myself that I took this opportunity head first. As I was only asked to be a runner on the second day of shooting, I knew that I had to make sure that everything was as good or even better than the day prior.
The main things I dealt with were the crew, making sure the set was always clean, making the cast and crew’s teas and coffees – which I must say, I had a lot of compliments on. The first thing I did when I stepped on set, I introduced myself to the first year runners, who I hadn’t met before and who I would be working with. The second thing I did was go around all of the cast and crew to see if they would like a drink. I always have a small notepad and pen on me for this specfic thing, I made a my own little table for teas/coffees last academic year, which I then showed a first year (now second year), who has now showed his mentors this easy but helpful way to actually keep the cast and crew happy!

Carrying on with the day, I made sure the set was clean, especially after some spillages, I went around to the cast and crew every now and again with biscuits an crisps etc. At the end of the day, I made sure that my station was spotless and had no rubbish left there. I also, hoovered the area up, I wiped down the sides and made sure that the full bins were taken out.
I feel like I worked to the best of my ability as a runner on this production although I definitely will be working harder constantly to better myself.
Don’t Fear the Reaper
In conclusion, to this specific project, I feel like maybe if there was an extra already casted, I would have definitely be able to show everyone on the production how hard I can work, my main abilities and how I work as a 3rd AD. However, taking this role as an extra, I feel shows that I will and can do most things which will help out a production in any way, shape or form.

Improvement for the future
Even though, I know I work hard and I know I always work to the best of my abilties for the future, I feel like there are so many things that I can definitely improve on if I want to carry on bettering myself in the industry.
I think the main thing I can improve on for the future is my professionalism. I am a very talkative person, which is great for confidence and communication, however when it’s a very tight schedule and when a lot of the production crew will try to be working quickly, being someone who talks a lot can really worsen a lot of situations.

Conclusion
Finally, even though I may have quite a bit to work on in yself and in my job role, I know how far I have come and how much I have grown in the space of a years time. I have newly set challenges, including my professionalism within communication which in my opinion, can definitely be worked on. I know it will be hard but it will be worth it when I start reaching my main goals in the film and TV industry.
I have shown my transferable skills which I believe have helped me through this process so much and I possibly wouln’t be able to carry out my confidence and my skills with teamwork without it. I will maintain to use these skills and hopefullu learn some more skills in the near future on what I have planned and what I have not.
I think one thing that I feel could and would msot definitely help me in the industry is to learn more about other job roles. If i want to be starting off as a runner in the industry, I never know who I could be helping! I could be helping the gaffer, set up a light that I don’t know about. Someone from the camera crew may ask me to help bring in equipment and set it up. These are without a doubt included in my future challenges and goals which will help me set up to be the best member of crew I can be.
